ABOUT Lavonya
Years back, I took a serious interest in acting and was fortunate to be cast in some great projects. But living in an area where it is very hard to make a living as an actor, I felt limited. I inquired about a film production program at an art college, but the cost was astronomical! I continued to dabble in acting but eventually sidelined it to focus on other things. After experiencing some health issues that began in 2015, I was not sure I would revisit the field in any way. After my health improved, I decided I was going to try again and was even cast for a project, although I never played the role. Of course, we all know what happened in 2020 which halted not just my aspirations, but the aspirations of people all over the world.
Fast forward to the end of 2020, I felt I wanted to still be in the industry, in spite of not being able to be in front of the camera. I joined the camera team for a new church plant and things went up from there! I asked one of the seasoned vets to teach me more about cameras and quickly found myself doing paid gigs outside of church. I even became the camera leader for the church production team where I toured, trained, and scheduled others to run cameras.
To date, I have operated cameras for popular collegiate sports in the SOCON and Big South Conference including Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, Softball, Baseball, and Lacross which air live on ESPN +. I have also operated cameras for My40 Friday Night Rivals high school football games aired on WLOS ABC13, as well as filmed live conferences, charity events, comedy shows, and concerts. My most notable camera work has been for the Travis Greene "Oil + Water" live album recording, a live recording of the "Rickey Smiley & Friends Comedy Show," and a live concert recording of "Jeezy with Rich Homie Quan." I was fortunate to be asked by a friend to do some camera work for a film project in June 2021 and was asked by the Director to return for another project the next year!
Now that I have acquired my own camera equipment, I am able to explore new realms of creativity and work on my own personal projects! I plan to focus on branding and advertising, promotional videos, sports and testimonials. My first project, “Leitra Lindsey’s Breast Cancer Survivor Testimonial,” was released in October 2024.
